Project Background

The company is equipped with two 390MW gas-steam combined cycle generator sets and a cross-flow cooling water system using river water.

The cross-flow cooling water system uses river water as raw water, which is seasonally affected by salt tides, causing a large amount of biofilm to form in the cooling water pipelines, especially in the condenser, and thereby breeding clams (a small shellfish). The current method is to regularly add bactericidal algaecides and release rubber balls in the condenser to unclog the pipelines, which easily pollutes the environment and is not effective in removing biofilm and clams, affecting the heat exchange efficiency and power generation efficiency of the power plant.

Renovation Plan

  • The electromagnetic wave water treatment system is installed on the cooling water inlet pipe of the condenser, with a pipe diameter of DN1400. A total of 2 sets are installed to replace the original dosing and rubber ball descaling method.

Test Method

  • Before and after the transformation, the condenser was opened to visually compare the growth of clams and the adhesion of activated sludge, and photographed and recorded;
  • Compare the inner diameters of selected water pipes in the condenser to assess whether new hard scale has formed;
  • The operation data of the condenser, the main heat exchange equipment of the power plant, and the circulating water data were collected and analyzed before and after the transformation;

Results

  • After the descaler was put into operation for 3 months, the condenser was opened for visual inspection and photo comparison, and the growth of clams (shellfish) was obviously inhibited, and there was no adhesion of clams that affected the operating parameters of the condenser;
  • The inner diameter of the selected water pipe of the condenser is basically the same as the pipe diameter before installation, and no new hard scale is generated in the tube bundle;
  • After stopping the use of bactericides and algaecides, the main parameters such as condenser vacuum and end difference remained unchanged;
